Registration Tips:

  • Access to explore.wspr.ca and ALL bookable programs may start in a virtual waiting room.
    When it's your turn in the queue, you will be directed directly to the website to proceed with your registration.
    If the system is not overwhelmed, the queue will not be activated.

Troubleshooting:

  • Waitlist issues: If you experience any issues being put on a waitlist, please call reception at 250-478-8384 for help in processing.
  • Receipt processing: Please be aware that during these times, transactions can take up to 24 hours to complete and for receipts to be emailed.

Lessons: School Age 1 to School Age 6

Skating lessons run in two 5x lesson sets; October to November and November to December. Registration for the second set of lessons starts on October 22 at 6AM after the set assessment day to ensure students are registering for the correct lesson level for the next set.

School Age Skating Level 1


A class for school age children with very little or no skating experience. All children wear skates for the first class. They will learn the basics of ice safety and to stand and skate by themselves in an encouraging environment.

School Age Skating Level 2


This class is for children who can skate independently on the ice. Skills include forward sculling, one-foot forward glides, stopping, walking backwards with some glide, and two-foot half turns on the spot. Prerequisite is School Age 1 or Preschool 3.

School Age Skating Level 3


Skills children will learn in this course include: one-foot glides on a curve, forwards walking crosscuts, backwards skating and sculling, two-foot backwards glide to one foot, and snowplow stop. Prerequisite is School Age 2 or Pre-School 4.

School Age Skating Level 4


Skills children will learn in this course include: two-foot stop, forwards crosscuts, turning forwards to backwards, backwards to forwards, and two-foot jump in a glide backwards. Prerequisite is School Age 3.

School Age Skating Level 5


Skills children will learn in this course include Backwards Mohawk turn, two-foot stop in both directions, one foot jump gliding forward, fast backwards start and fast forward start from back stop. Prerequisite is School Age 4.

School Age Skating Level 6


This level introduces advanced skating skills, while continuing to focus and enhance acquired skills. This class allows participants the opportunity to request specific skills they would like to focus on with unstructured practice time with instructor supervision. Prerequisite is School Age 5.
